The water in the two monitored water sources in Zhongshan is safe enough to be used as drinking water, according to the Report on the Centralized Drinking Water Quality of Cities at Prefecture Level and Above in August.

The report unveils the water quality of the 80 water sources in 21 prefecture-level cities and Shunde District with the two in ZS, Dafeng Water Plant and Quanlu Water Plant?both meeting the standards of type II water. It was learned from ZS Environmental Protection Bureau that the quality of drinking water in ZS remains stable since the beginning of this year. A total of 10.59 million cubic meters of water in Quanlu and 7.2 million in Dafeng has been inspected and no parameters have been found failing to meet the standards.

It is stipulated that surface water can be used as drinking water only when it at least hits the standards of type III water. Type I water boasts the best quality so it is usually protected as a natural reserve of water source. Type II water is second in quality, usually used as centralized drinking water.
